Long ago, in a far away land called Blogdrive

I haven't updated in ages...actually almost 2 years!

So much has transpired since then...Abbey's beloved grama (my mom) passed away last November (still the toughest thing ever, even worse than my divorce!), and her Da moved back to Ireland (mutual agreement).  We live in my mom's house, with Auntie Allie...who is a fabulous auntie (and 1/2 income provider! thanks, Al)!!!

We are happy, and fulfilled.  Abbey is the most amazing child.  She has enough personality for an entire high school year book!  She loves to sing, dance, do gymnastics, run, fall, cry, laugh (A LOT!), tell jokes, go to school, ride horses, ride bikes, go for long walks picking up "it's nature, Mom, can't we have it!", and of course, cuddle and sleep in on Sundays!!!

I'm not sure if I will update this regularly, as I teach kindergarten, and have almost no free time...and when I do, it's spent with Abbey!

Suffice to say...life is a BOWL  FULL OF ABBEY!!!

My own little gigglebox!

Allie has gotten Abbey to laugh.  It is the most wonderful sound imaginable!  She's been giggling for almost a week now.

Work is going well, although I miss Abbey terribly.  I now know what it must have been like for all my families.

Abbey is starting to really show her personality.  She smiles all the time.  She still has meltdowns, but they are managable.  She's delightful in every way!

Nana Bev is visiting, and thankfully Abbey has taken to her.  Tomorrow, Tia Tish (TT) is coming down from Portland.  Abbey's going to have all her matriarchs around her.  A big chick fest!

The Big THREE month milestone!

Abbey is now 12 weeks and 4 days...she's a living doll!  She smiles all the time, giggles, and coos constantly, and loves to grab toys and play with her hands.  She grasps her hands a lot, and she reminds me of a mad scientist rubbing his hands together..."yes, ohhhhh, yes, the world will be mine!"

She now weighs 10 lbs. 9 oz., and grew another 1/2 inch.

She's still only drinking 4 oz. of formula, but it's every 2 1/2 to 3 hours apart!  Hopefully her grama will get her on a schedule when she starts sitting for her next week.

I start nannying again on Wednesday...full time.  It'll be nice having a double income again!

Abbey is sleeping through the night...as long as she has a bottle at 11 or 11:30 PM.  Then she's up to see her Da off to work at 6:30 AM.

I am having such a wonderful time with her.  She brightens my whole day.  I am going to miss spending so much time with her, but gladly she'll have a great time with her gram, as much as I did mine!  I have such beautifully happy memories of my grama...I want Abbey to have the same.

She's making her first trip to San Francisco at the end of the month.  I want to take lots of pictures of her at landmarks like GG Park and Lombard Street.  We're helping Nana Bev move up here!

Built In Best Friend!

We just had a lovely visit with Jane Archibald and her parents...Laura and Chris.  It's so nice to know that childhood friends (Laura and myself) can have children so close in age...it's like Jane and Abbey are destined to know each other, and maybe be best friends one day!

Jane is a month older than Abbey, but the difference is enormous.  Jane holds her head straight up and is really into exploring her hands, and grabbing at objects.  She also chatters away...no longer that infantile cooing.  She's very much a baby.

Abbey is slowly coming out of that infant stage herself.  She has about 70% control of her head, and clasps her hands together often, and tries sucking her fingers a lot.  She started grabbing at her "dangling Daisy" toy, and the fish that hang off her bouncy seat.  Her cooing is slowly becoming chatter as well.  She loves to "talk" to Gramma all day!

The girls were so cute with each other.  Just very curious!  I'll hopefully have a photo of them up soon...Laura took quite a few.

It was so nice having spent time with them.  We hope to see a lot more of them!

2 month check-up!

Abbey had her first set of shots.  I couldn't even stay in the room.  I had to leave, and let my mother and sister hold her!!!

She is growing along her curve (which is still small 30th%)...she's 9 lbs. 5 ounces, and 23 inches.

Also, her neurological development is above average, that of a 4-6 month old.  Her gross motor skills are also that of a 3-4 month old.

The doctor said that she is really impressed with Abbey's development...of course she gets that from MY side of the family!!!

Here she is sitting up on her Gramma's lap...and trying to crane her neck to see what Auntie Allie is doing...

Hippie Fun

We had a really good time at The Fair.  It was exactally like I imagined.  Very hippie-ish, but fun just the same.  Similar vibe as Burningman...only lots of shade!

Beautiful crafts, and delicious food...vegan, Thai, Peruvian, Greek...YUM!

Didn't really buy a lot, since money is tight for everyone these days, but I managed to get that darling tie-dyed hat for Abbey...it's TOO CUTE!  I also made a "lasting art" project for Abbey.  This art instalation put up a metal "tree", and then had people create a "leaf" to be put on branches.  If all goes well it'll last as long as The Fair does.  It is called the Good Intentions Tree.  I made a leaf with beads and wrote, "For Abbey Foley...have a wonderful life!"  Every year we'll go to The Fair, and I'll show Abbey her "leaf!"

We took the free bus from downtown Eugene out to Veneta, where the OCF is.  So, Abbey also had her first bus trip.  She loved it.  Going, she fell asleep in her Snugli, but coming back, she just stared and smiled at everything.  I think it had something to do with all the sweet smelling "herbs" at The Fair!!!  She ate a lot too!!! ha ha

We were all knackered!  It was a good ol' day out!

OREGON COUNTRY FAIR

Abbey's off for one of her first big outtings!

We're taking her to the Oregon Country Fair on Sunday.  I've heard it's like Burningman.  So, she'll get her first taste of cool alternative lifestyles...and with Con and I as her parents, she'll be going to these type of events until she decides she does or doesn't want to go.

I'm looking foward to it.  Should be a hoot!

http://www.oregoncountryfair.com

She's nine weeks on Monday...where has the time gone?!

She is really getting control of her head...in fact, she loves to lean way back and move her head back and forth...Allie calls this her Stevie Wonder move.  She also can sit up in the corner of the couch and her Boppy.  She's a strong little toughie!  She smiles ALL the time now too...and laughs.

We're having fun with this "one!"

WELCOME COUSIN HANNAH!

WELCOME BABY HANNAH FOLEY!!!

Hannah was born on Monday, the 5th of July.  She's doing really well, so are her mammy and da!

Abbey's going to have such fun with a girl cousin.  They can swap clothes, be penpals, then eventually go on the tear together in Ireland!!!  Oonagh and I are in for a big suprise, especially if our girls follow in their mother's footsteps!!!

Abbey is currently trying to roll over.  She's so tenacious, she winds up falling asleep on her side, after trying and trying and trying.  You can hear her grunting and the crib mattress squeaking the whole time.

She's also fighting sleep these days.  It's like she thinks there's something she'll miss.  The only thing she'll miss these days is her parents falling asleep in front of the television!

I'm trying to ween her from napping with me, and doing it on her own.  Also, keeping her entertained in the day, so she'll be wrecked at night.   No such luck yet.

"UP ALL NIGHT...ooooh, up all night"

BOOMTOWN RATS

Not sure WHAT my daughter is thinking...but, she's been up since 7"30 this MORNING!!!  She's only cat napped...15 minutes here, 20 minutes there...but predominantly AWAKE!!!

Thankfully she isn't crying.

She is however really looking at things, staring at her hands, and cooing.

I just can't believe this child has been awake for over 12 hours!

Okay, everyone, repeat this mantra....

Sleep through the night Abbey....sleep through the night Abbey...

Meanwhile, I'm working on 3 hours sleep...and I'm rum dumb!  I keep talking and then forget what I'm saying mid sentence!

This will be Abbey's first Fourth of July...I hope the fireworks don't freak her out...up here in "rural" Oregon, the kids buy illegal ones in Washington state, and then set them off the WHOLE week!!!

Well, at least we know the dogs will be sedated!

As I write this, it's around 10 PM, and Auntie Allie is trying to get my little bugaboo to sleep...then soon I'll follow!  Zzzzzz...

good luck, Allie!

Comfortably Numb

Today was my post pregnancy check up.

The two good things that came from it are, my blood pressure is down considerably...it's nice and low 116/70, and I've lost all but 3 lbs. of my pregnancy weight, that included the added water retention from the pre-eclampsia scare as well.  I'm happy.

The not too nice things that I found out were...I will continue to feel little aches and pains from the C- section, I will probably have significant numbness around it, and this will most likely be for the next year, or it will occur...F*O*R*E*V*E*R.

Okay, why don't they tell you that on "A Baby Story" or "Birth Day?!"  Isn't it the medical media's job to scare the Hell out of you BEFORE you give birth?!

Oh, NOOOOOOO, you get one last suprise after you've been through the toughest 10-12 hours of your life, and think the next 6 weeks are it...it's over...nah, we'll throw you a loop...we'll have little nerve endings start coming back to life, while you are actually getting that ONE hour of sleep...so that you jump up in pain, and then wake the baby with your whimpers.  Or better yet, we'll have a nice big chunk of your flabby abdomen completely numb so that you can actually poke a fork hard enough to cause indents...uhm, yes, I did do this...and I plead post partum insanity, or at least momentary 9 year old boy syndrome!!!

Abbey, by the way, is great!  She's letting me "squeegie" her nose out, and has slept most of her illness away.  Her temp. is normal, and she's eating like a horse again!!!

Bets are on that she'll be 9 1/2 pounds at her next visit...12 days away.

And, for those of you who have followed my pregnancy blog, our last contestant to give birth is Oonagh...and we're still waiting patiently.  She's due around the 3rd.  Abbey's cousin is making the most of it by staying put...even though poor Oon has been 2 cm dialated and 60 % effaced since early June!!!

What is it with these slacker Foley babies????????

Abbey Roisín Foley came into our lives on a Monday morning, May 10, 2004. Her birth was just as dramatic as she herself has slowly become!

Though crazed with lack of sleep, and the attention span of a gnat, I am amased everyday at the wonderful things she does! And, as for her Da, he's already weak with love for his little bugaboo!

And, soon enough we will be making the ever popular 9 hour torture flight with a toddler, to Ireland to see Da's family. We're lucky that we live close to my family, so we don't have to make a long hideous car trip as well!!!
